Laurie MacArthur

Piano | Theory

Laurie MacArthur was raised in Ontario where she began her musical journey at the age of five. Although she has studied multiple instruments, including violin and cello, her main passion is piano. After moving to British Columbia, Laurie studied piano with some of the most respected teachers in the Lower Mainland. She holds an ARCT Piano Teacher Diploma and an ARCT Piano Performers Diploma, both from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Additionally, she holds a Licentiate Performance Diploma from the British Columbia Conservatory of Music. After receiving her diplomas, she furthered her studies in both advanced piano repertoire and advanced theoretical subjects. She has acquired the standing as an Advanced Piano Specialist and an Advanced Theory Specialist. In addition, she is a Registered Music Teacher and a member of the BCRMTA.

Laurie has been teaching at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music since 2002 and specializes in all levels of Piano, Theory, Harmony, History, Counterpoint, and Analysis. She prepares piano and theory students for both BCCM and RCM Examinations, where many achieve distinction standings. Her students also succeed in festivals, winning medallions, trophies, and scholarships.

Laurie enjoys teaching students of all ages and levels of piano and theory. Her main goal is to find the best approach for each individual student in order to instill a strong understanding of theory and musicianship. She strives to help her students along their musical journey of making and enjoying music; a skill they can enjoy over their lifetime.
