Performance Countdown (Pt.2)

There’s nothing worse than stepping onto a stage feeling unprepared for your performance. Here’s what you can do in the week leading up to the performance day to play at your best!

1 Week before Performance

Spend some time playing through your piece as if it was the real performance. Run through your entire program — this includes everything from stepping onto the stage to bowing at the end.

This is also the perfect time to get comfortable with playing in front of a crowd; so invite your family or a friend over and put on a mini-performance (1-3 pieces) for them.

Additionally, take the time to double-check the logistics of your performance. (Especially the wheres and whens). Music Festival Schedule

1 Day before Performance

Now is not the time to make changes. You either know it now or you don’t. Take it easy for the last day before your big performance. Cramming in hours of practice the night before can increase stress and anxiety leading up to your performance. The best thing to do now is to relax and get a good night’s rest!

Day of Performance

Before leaving for your performance, we recommend playing the first 6 - 8 bars of your piece(s). This will help ensure that you start your performance at the right tempo.

Don’t forget to warm up before your performance! Whether you are running through some basic scales on a piano or just tapping your fingers on your lap, doing some warm-up exercises will keep your hands warm and performance-ready.

Our final piece of advice: take a deep breath and relax. You’ve got this!
