Susan Xia

Piano | Theory

Susan holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of British Columbia, where she studied under the guidance of Corey Hamm. She has received many scholarships, including the Jane Coop Scholarship in Piano and the June Goldsmith Scholarship in Music. Throughout her studies, she was a member of UBC’s Contemporary Players, Women’s Choir, Concert Winds, and has toured the San Francisco Bay Area with the UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Susan has also performed in masterclasses for artists such as Ilana Vered, Enrico Elisi, and Sean Chen.

As a highly involved musician in her community, Susan has performed with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as been part of the VSO Day of Music and Canadian Music Centre Documentary Film Festival. She is Joyful Voice Community Choir’s accompanist and a dedicated Concerts in Care performer. Susan is also the manager and co-founder of Artemisia Duo, a flute and piano duo dedicated to telling stories through music.

Her continuing passion for music extends into her teaching of piano and music theory to students of all ages. She enjoys tailoring her teaching style to her students and inspiring them to be creative. In her spare time, Susan enjoys watching TED Talks, running, painting, and learning new instruments.
