Marian Van Hove

Marian’s expertise is in the field of piano, organ and theory instruction in both business and educational environments. She has proven ability in conveying the necessary concepts for music development, planning, organization and maintaining good human relations.

From 1973 to 1975 Marian attended the Bachelor of Music Program at Douglas College where she specialized in piano, gaining an extensive background in music theory and history as well as exposure to various instruments including guitar, brass and woodwinds and choral singing. During the 1976 –1977 school year she attended the music education program at Calvin College, Michigan, USA where she was a teacher aide in an elementary school setting. From 1977 to 1978 Marian continued her studies at UBC where she gained practical experience in elementary classroom teaching, acquiring knowledge of the various teaching methods applied to music including the Orff and Kodaly methods

Along with obtaining the A.R.C.T. Piano Teacher Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Marian is a certified Kelly Kirby Piano Method Instructor.

At the BCCM Marian gives private piano and, private or group theory lessons. In addition to being the president of RCM Alumni Association for the past eight years Ms. Van Hove continues to teach and direct students successfully in examinations of piano and theory, organize concerts, co-ordinate music workshops and have students participate in exams and festivals, all with excellent results.

Ms Van Hove is active as a church pianist and involved in organizing the worship services. She is also active in the Coquitlam Registered Music Teacher’s Association. Interests include concert music, attending workshops, and seminars, swimming, reading, skiing, hiking and biking. She is well organized, self motivated, adaptable, empathetic and cheerful, with an ability to communicate with and relate to all types of people.
