Jamie Onwood is a coloratura soprano who received her BMus from Northwestern University. A native of Chicago, Jamie’s love for singing and performing began at a young age. She began singing with the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s children’s chorus as well as other theatre companies in the area. During her time at Northwestern she has been seen in productions of La nozze di Figaro, La Traviata, and Mozart’s The Impresario.
Since making Vancouver home she has performed for such organizations as City Opera Vancouver, Burnaby Lyric Opera, Northstar Performing Arts, Opera Kelowna, and the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra. She also performed Die Königen der Nacht as a guest artist in Die Zauberflöte with the Vancouver Academy of Music. Jamie has recently been studying with Patricia Sheridan in New York and coached with Joshua Greene from the Met.
Sharing her love of music and passion for learning, Jamie has been teaching for over 12 years. She centers her teaching on building a solid vocal technique in her students. Her students are encouraged to in festival and concert opportunities. Jamie teaches students of all ages, knowing that that everyone can learn to sing and enjoy doing it!
