Examination - General Information and Policies

With the increased interest in piano as a means of developing essential study skills, concentration, and self-discipline which virtually guarantees future success in any field, the British Columbia Conservatory of Music piano examination system provides a stimulating, comprehensive goal for all students.

The BCCM curriculum  has been developed by well-respected, knowledgeable professionals in the field of piano study, whose assistance in this endeavor is gratefully acknowledged. Both technical requirements and repertoire have been selected to represent a logical progression of skill and musical application.

You are invited to partner with the growing number of teachers and students, and participate in BCCM Examinations as a rewarding experience based on personal development, setting goals of a high academic standard, and service to the music community.

Certificate Program
All students entering the Conservatory Examination program will have as their goal to complete at least one grade level in music
per school year. Upon the successful completion of an examination the student will be issued a certificate of achievement.

Certificates are granted to students who successfully complete practical or theory examinations for Grades 1-10 as well as the Advanced Performers Certificate examination.

Fellowship Diploma F.B.C.M. Piano
High School Credits
Achievement in BCCM Examinations is recognized for credit towards secondary school graduation. Upon presentation of a BCCM transcript, students will receive High School credit. For more information please refer to the BC Ministry of Education confirmation page. Upon presentation of a BCCM transcript, students will receive High School Credit for the following piano and theory examinations.
Fine Arts 10, Fine Arts 11 and Fine Arts 12 are each, 4 credit courses.

College of Examiners
The College of Examiners is a group of individuals who have been highly trained in the principles of piano teaching and interpretation. They have all completed diploma studies in a world recognized piano program in performance and/or teaching. Further, all have completed intensive training in examining and evaluating for all grades to diploma level.

Exam Applications and Procedure

 
The British Columbia Conservatory of Music Examination system is open to all piano students worldwide. Applications for examinations may be submitted online, faxed or mailed. Any mailed application that is postmarked on or before the closing date will be accepted. Late applications will be accepted at the discretion of BCCM Examinations.

Complete a separate application form for each practical and theory examination.

    For mailed applications, payment is accepted by credit card, cheque or money order. 

    Do not mail cash.

    Application closing dates for piano and theory examinations are generally:

        

mid-April, for June examinations (spring session)

mid-July, for mid-August examinations (summer session)

mid-November, for January examinations (winter session)

Policies
Once applications are received by BCCM they may not be withdrawn. No refunds are issued to candidates who fail to appear for their scheduled examination. Fee extensions may be granted in the case of a medical emergency, but a letter from a physician is required.

There will be a charge of $30.00 for NSF cheques. Late applications are accepted at the discretion of the BCCM examinations.

Special requests will be accommodated wherever possible, but such accommodation cannot be guaranteed.

Entry forms may be faxed, mailed or transported in person to the festival office. Choose from the following two methods to complete registration.

Payment Information
Payment may be made via Cash, Visa, Master Card, or Cheque payable to BCCM. DO NOT MAIL CASH. Full payment must be included with the entry form. Cheques should be dated the day the entry form is submitted. Post-dated cheques will not be accepted. If there is more than ONE performer per family entering the festival, ONE payment may be issued to cover the combined total amount required.
