This is an exciting time in the history of BCCM as we approach a quarter century of developing a music conservatory that has become one of the finest available in Canada, evidenced by the calibre of our students, the quality of our faculty, and the professionalism of our staff.

Since its founding in 1986, the Conservatory has experienced many changes - the most dramatic of which have been in recent years. The BCCM examination system, supported by its Advisory Board and College of Examiners and, available to students worldwide, is endorsed by the University of British Columbia School of Music and the British Columbia Ministry of Education whereby students receive high school credit for their BCCM piano and theory examinations.

The BCCM Music Festival has seen significant expansion for the past number of years and has grown from an in-house three-day event, to a community-based three-week-plus gala of activity involving teachers and students from throughout the province. The adjudicators are highly professional and knowledgeable teachers and musicians who have made themselves available to work with the participants, many of whom have displayed some of the highest level of playing in the country.

Whatever your goals and aspirations are during your time of study at BCCM, be assured that amid all the activity of lessons, recitals, theory classes, teacher concerts and-the-like, my intention, and the intention of the faculty and administration at every level, is to support all of you – the parents and students who are engaged in this work, and to enable you to do your very best.
